The Holy Ark

is an exceptional work of Hispanic silverware from the 11th century, both for its history and for its many devotees. Its construction was ordered by Alfonso VI and his sister Urraca. The Ark housed many important relics. The partially gilded silver plates that cover its wooden core were deformed, presenting breaks and an advanced state of sulfidation For this reason, our intervention consisted in its full disassembly, which also made it possible to act on the wooden core and repair structural damages. Financing: Cultural Exchange Society of Oviedo. Project and Technical Management: Cultural Heritage Institute of Spain. Execution: Talleres de Arte GRANDA S.A.
