Granda has carried out a new intervention in the Almudena Cathedral in Madrid. On this occasion, it was to dress the two walls of the Chapel of San Fernando, which is also the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament of the Crypt of the Almudena Cathedral, where there are two images: one of the Virgin and one of St. Joseph.<\/p>\n

The solution provided by Granda consisted of two two-tone marbleized frames for both sides of the tabernacle for two reliefs, also in wood, of the Divine Mercy and the Immaculate Conception. The reliefs have been polychromed in soft tones.<\/p>\n

In addition, the existing tabernacle has been enriched with an ornamentation in gilded brass with decorative forms, topped with a cross. Below the tabernacle, the area has been completed with a golden brass chrism.<\/p>\n

\"ALMUDENA<\/p>\n

The crypt is located just below Santa Mar\u00eda la Real de la Almudena. It was designed by the Marquis of Cubas and its purpose was to support the building.<\/p>\n

The crypt has a Latin cross plan, made entirely of stone with stone vaults and 558 columns. It has nine chapels on the right side and 12 on the left side.<\/p>\n

The Capilla del Sant\u00edsimo was originally built to house the remains of Queen Mar\u00eda de las Mercedes de Orl\u00e9ans, who currently rests in the altar of the Virgen de la Almudena, in the Cathedral.<\/p>\n

At present, the altar is presided over by an image of San Fernando, the work of Federico Coullaut Varela.<\/p>\n
