The Feast of the Immaculate Conception<\/h3>\n

The dogma of the Immaculate Conception, as expressed in the bull Ineffabilis Deus<\/i>The apostolic epistle of Pius IX, published on December 8, 1854, refers to Mary as free from all sin from the very moment of conception:<\/strong><\/p>\n

(...) To the honor of the Most Holy Trinity, for the joy of the Catholic Church, with the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, with that of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul and with ours: We define, affirm and pronounce that the doctrine which holds that the Blessed Virgin Mary was preserved immune from all stain of original guilt from the first instant of her conception, by the singular privilege and grace of Almighty God, in view of the merits of Christ-Jesus, Savior of the human race, has been revealed by God and must therefore be firmly and constantly believed by all the faithful.<\/strong>(Excerpt from the Bull Ineffabilis Deus).<\/em><\/p>\n

It also contrasts the figure of Mary with that of Eve in relation to the fall and redemption of the human race and exalts Mary's purity and divine maternity.<\/p>\n

The feast of the Immaculate Conception has been celebrated in Spain on December 8 since 1644,<\/strong> although already in Spain, during the Middle Ages, there was a popular devotion to the Immaculate Conception of Mary. The date was set 9 months before the celebration of Mary's birth, which the Church celebrates on September 8.<\/p>\n

A special chasuble, symbol of Mary's purity<\/h3>\n

The Marian chasuble<\/a>symbol of the purity and virginity of Mary<\/strong> is used for the feasts of the Virgin. In order to use this blue chasuble a special permission from the Holy See is needed, a permission that was granted to Spain in 1864 as thanks to the defense of the dogmas of the Immaculate Conception.<\/p>\n

The coloring of these chasubles, based on different shades of blue<\/strong>is inspired by the Christian tradition, since these colors have been associated since ancient times with the Virgin in her representation of purity and truth.<\/strong><\/p>\n
