It is also known as \"Via Crucis\" to one of the oldest devotions practiced by Catholics: the \"Way of the Cross\".&nbsp;<strong>meditated prayer of the sufferings of Christ from the time he is condemned to death in Pilate's praetorium until his burial.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5921\" src=\"https:\/\/granda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/20131219_111342-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"20131219_111342.jpg\" width=\"3264\" height=\"1836\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\">Its origin dates back to the <strong>first centuries of Christianity<\/strong> <strong>in Jerusalem<\/strong>where Christians took up the custom of <strong>to walk the Via Dolorosa in an attitude of prayer and recollection<\/strong>. Since the peace of Constantine, pilgrimages to the Holy Places have increased and <strong>Christians returning from Jerusalem to their places of origin erected small \"Calvaries\" where they could venerate the Passion of Christ.<\/strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;This pious practice evolved and spread until it became what we know today as the Stations of the Cross, a prayer divided into <strong>fourteen steps or stations, which correspond to scenes present in the Gospel or added by the Christian tradition.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tThe Franciscans, in charge of guarding the Holy Places in the 14th century, strongly propagated this devotion, as did Blessed Alvaro de C\u00f3rdoba (15th century) and, later, Saint Leonard of Port Maurice (18th century).<\/p>\n<p>There are fourteen Stations of the Cross:<\/p>\n<p><b>First station<\/b>Jesus is condemned to death.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_5905\" style=\"width: 2042px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5905\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5905\" src=\"https:\/\/granda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/423-519-policromado-1-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Stations of the Cross made in Arte Granda.
