Although clearly eclectic in style,
this chapel also features marked modernist inspiration – such as geometric patterns. The overall design is aimed at emphasizing the sanctuary with respect to the surrounding architecture. The life-size image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus dominates the altarpiece and the crucified Christ is located to one side both taking center visual stage. On the side walls, we also find carved statues of the Virgin and St. Joseph. The tabernacle is installed on an elevated pedestal in the center of the sanctuary. The arrangement of the elements is aimed to establish a discernible spatial, chromatic and especially semiotic relationship between the altar of sacrifice, the tabernacle with its pedestal, and the ambo.
