A few years ago, the Korean Catholic Church built a new church in California: St. Thomas Korean Church.
GRANDA was commissioned to take care of the interior decoration of the church, adapting each liturgical and decorative element to the Korean aesthetics.
The altar, ambo, tabernacle, seating, Christ, reliefs, Stations of the Cross and four images came from the workshops of Arte de Granda.
The four sculptures were to represent the Virgin Mary, St. Joseph, Andrew Kim Taegon (the first Catholic priest of Korean origin to be martyred) and St. Peter Channel.
The Virgin Mary and St. Joseph were to be represented with Korean features, to bring them closer to the parishioners. After an in-depth study of Korean traditions, features and clothing, GRANDA was able to provide both images with the desired features.
Today, these sculptures can be seen at St Thomas Korean Catholic Center in Anaheim (California, United States).
