This impressive

main altarpiece presides in the sanctuary of St. Mary Major in Trujillo. It consists of twenty-five panel paintings attributed to Fernando Gallego (1440-1507). The condition of this altarpiece was distressing on account of termite infestation and because the anchorage was misaligned thus endangering its overall stability. In addition to the conservation and restoration of the altarpiece, our intervention consisted of curbing reasons for deterioration caused by pathologies existing in the building itself which meant necessary adjustments to the tightness of the apse and the shrine. We also carried out lighting and screening of light coming from the stained-glass windows in order to modify and optimize lighting and thermal conditions. Financing: Cultural Heritage Institute of Spain. Execution: Talleres de Arte GRANDA S.A.
