This is how this special chasuble has been made, recovering the nuanced embroidery of the 16th century.

A SPECIAL CHASUBLE, MADE FOR A NEW PRESBYTER ON THE DAY OF HIS FIRST MASS

This festive chasuble, entirely hand-embroidered, is inspired by an antique chasuble from the 16th century. and was embroidered in the Los Rosales workshop for the celebration of the first Mass of a new priest. For every new priest it is a day of special celebration, the first of many Masses that he will celebrate throughout his life as a servant of Christ in his Church, the day on which, after pronouncing the words of Consecration, he will raise Jesus Christ himself in his hands.

INSPIRATION, DESIGN AND REALIZATION

The chasuble, for which have been used nearly 300 hours of tailoring and embroideryhas been made on natural silk damaska type of weaving that originated in the city of Damascus in the Middle East around the 11th century. It is a thick and compact fabric with motifs drawn on the weft. In this case the design of the fabric patterns has been inspired by an ancient Indian shari.  

The piece has a rich hand-embroidered central strip in gold and silver tissue applicationfloral motifs that ornament the piece on both sides. It is also embellished with gallons of fine goldhandmade, in the style of the antique 17th century stripes.

On the strip we found, on the front side, the embroidered image of Christ and on the back side, the Virgin Mary, both made with the technique of shading with natural silk threads.. This complex technique has its origins in the Orient, and consists of reproducing the chosen designs on the base fabric and then covering them with different silk threads. These threads, applied and fixed on the base fabric, reproduce the volume and light with the effect of a painting technique.

JESUS CHRIST, LORD OF THE UNIVERSE

The first image represents Resurrected JesusThe red of the tunic represents the humanity of Jesus Christ, the blue mantle, with the wounds of the passion in his hands, crowned by a halo and a cross and dressed as a king, with rich clothes and the orb in his hands. MARY, MOTHER OF THE INCARNATE WORD

The embroidered image on the back of the chasuble is of the Virgin MaryThe painting is painted in rich colors, among which the blue of the mantle, representative of the Mother of God, stands out. Mary holds with one hand a bouquet of lilies, symbol of purity, and with the other the Child, already represented with the rays of divinity on his head. The Virgin does not touch Jesus directly, but through a cloth, in the same way that a cloth is used to touch sacred things.
