The museum of sacred art of Vitoria exhibits among its treasures a piece by Granda

Considered to be one of the most beautiful museums of sacred art in Europe, the Museum of Sacred Art of Vitoria houses almost 500 exhibited works of remarkable artistic value. Among its most representative pieces is the chest of the Cathedral of Santa María de Vitoria-Gasteiz, made in 1925 by the founder of Granda, Félix Granda, and donated to the museum by Elvira Zulueta.

Made of gilded silver, it is inlaid with precious stones that belonged to the donor and ivory reliefs alluding to the Passion of Christ.

Félix Granda was a forerunner in his time. Concerned about the situation of decadence in which liturgical art had found itself since the end of the 19th century, he invested all his energy and efforts in making sacred art recover the splendor that had characterized the Church for centuries.

He contributed to maintaining the tradition of quality sacred goldsmithing, where the figure of God was respected with the dignity and grandeur it deserved, using noble metals, since the blood and body of Christ could only be in contact with precious metals and using as a vehicle the decorative techniques of craftsmanship that had endured through time.
