In this minimally decorated,

brick interior church which dates to the 1980’s trends in church architecture in the United States, we find a space that was problematic to resolve from an aesthetic point of view. Granda’s design succeeded in transforming an undifferentiated stark and square interior into an iconographically vivified site for the celebration of the liturgy and personal prayer. The main focus of this newly renovated interior is the altarpiece with a structure reminiscent of the Neo-Romanesque inspiration which Granda thought would be most suitable to integrate with the contemporary architecture of the building. The altarpiece is divided into three sections where monumental figurative paintings of an idealized and very colorful realism appear sheltered by semicircular arches. The largest central canvas represents the Crucifixion with the Virgin and St. John on either side of the Cross, in a natural setting. The lateral panels represent, in a similar manner, St. Mary Magdalene and St. Peter, both saints of great love and penitence. The altar and the ambo are crafted in a very warm rose marble which we also used to make the pedestal for the tabernacle. All of these elements feature columns with gilded capitals and bases. The pedestal of the tabernacle is decorated with a gilded relief of the Holy Pelican, an iconographic symbol used since the Middle Ages to represent Christ. On the altar of sacrifice, we find a gilded relief of the Mystical Lamb.
