GRANDA's Projects department has prepared a first sketch of what will be the new main altarpiece of the Cathedral of San Felipe Apóstol in AreciboPuerto Rico, which will have a 11 meters wide and 14 meters high.
The GRANDA proposal consists of an altarpiece with free-standing columns of renaissance styleIt is in accordance with the structure of the temple, composed of five streets and two bodies with a bench and an attic.
With regard to the iconographyThe customer's instructions were respected, which consisted of the presence of the image of St. Philip the Apostle, Blessed Charles Emmanuel, Blessed John Paul II, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Divine Mercy, St. John the Baptist, and St. Joseph. The Holy Trinity was also to be present.
Thus, the first sketch shows in the central street, from bottom to top, an expositor for the monstrance or tabernacle in which an image of St. Philip the Apostle is located in a niche. Above, an image of the Virgin of Perpetual Help, from the property, and in the attic, a Trinity with God the Father holding the crucified Christ and the Holy Spirit in the form of a Dove.
The immediate side streets house sculptures of John Paul II, Blessed Charles Emmanuel and, higher up, St. Joseph and St. John the Baptist. In the exterior streets, reliefs on the Mystery of the Incarnation are proposed: The Annunciation, The Nativity, The Presentation and the Child lost and found. In the final frontispieces, two cartouches with the Vatican coat of arms and the current Bishop.
The final finish will be gilded with gold leaf, alternating matte and burnished areas, and polychrome imitating marble in various shades.
