Granda has commissioned two sculptures for the chapel at St Mary of the Lake University in Mundelein, Illinois. The carvings are a replica of 19th century stone models found on campus.
Granda's sculptors studied the photographs of the originals provided by the client. They were first modeled in clay before being sculpted in cedar wood.
The images represent St. Joseph with a lily in his hand, symbol of his chastity, and the Virgin in a praying position. The carvings have been polychromed with the intention of giving them a more realistic appearance. Both are located on both sides of the presbytery, in two niches built for this purpose.
