Sydney's St Mary's Cathedral to feature eight new sculptures of saints

motherthesa

In 2013, 16 carvings of the Apostles, St. John the Baptist, St. Paul and the two great prophets, Elijah and Moses, arrived at the Cathedral of Sydney to occupy the empty niches of the main altarpiece of the cathedral for the first time in history. All the carvings were made in the Granda art workshops.

Months later, the diocese of Sydney has once again entrusted Granda to produce, this time, eight carvings of saints that will be installed in one of the side altarpieces of the temple.

The saints who will occupy the spaces of the altarpiece are St. Catherine of Siena, St. Maria Goretti, St. Teresa of Avila, Mother Teresa of Calculta, St. Hildegard von Bingen, St. Mary of the Way, St. Monica and St. Teresa Benedictina del Camino, also known as Edith Stein.
