THE SEVEN JOYS OF THE VIRGIN
First joy: the angel Gabriel announces the Birth of Jesus to Mary
Second joy: Mary visits her kinswoman Elizabeth
Third joy: Jesus, the Son of God, is born of the Virgin Mary.
Fourth joy: Wise men from the East adore the baby Jesus in Bethlehem
Fifth joy: Mary and Joseph find the baby Jesus in the Temple
Sixth joy: Jesus rises victorious from the dead and appears to His own
Seventh joy: Mary is raised to heaven and crowned as queen and firstfruits of redeemed humanity.

THE SEVEN SORROWS OF MARY
First pain: Simeon's prophecy: "This Child is laid for ruin and resurrection of many of Israel, and a sword will pierce your soul".
Second sorrow: Herod's persecution and flight to Egypt.
Third sorrow: Jesus lost in the Temple for three days.
Fourth sorrow: Mary encounters Jesus, carrying the Cross.
Fifth Sorrow: The Crucifixion and Death of Our Lord
Sixth Sorrow: Mary receives Jesus coming down from the Cross
Seventh Sorrow: The Burial of Jesus
