The goal of this project

was to highlight the central place reserved for the tabernacle and the image of the crucified Christ in the sanctuary. To do so, we designed a structure in the form of a half-baldachin. The structure of the baldachin echoes the semicircular shape and classical lines of the apse where it is installed. As a result, it forms a natural focal point as well as a harmonious complement to its architectural setting, without dominating the sanctuary.

The baldachin

is composed of six white ribbed columns with gilded Ionic capitals. The ribs of the uppermost part of the baldachin begin from the frieze and converge in a carved figure of the Dove, a representation of the Holy Spirit. A large image of the crucified Christ is suspended in the center of the apse, above the tabernacle.Placement of the Crucifix creates a vertical axis from the tabernacle to the located behind the altar of sacrifice to the Crucified Christ. The gold-plated domed tabernacle is installed on a marble pedestal between two adoring angels. Since the baldachin consists of a high colonnade and open ribs, it is extremely lightweight despite its size and monumental appearance. The lovely and bright color palette for the sanctuary was determined by the interior architecture of the chapel.
