Built in 1977-80 with 10,000 glass panels by architect Philip Johnson, in 2011 it ceased to be an evangelical church, and passed into the hands of the Catholic Church. In 2012 it held its first Catholic service and was renamed from the Crystal Cathedral to the Christ Cathedral. Work has already begun on the refurbishment of the new Catholic church.
