In our Art Workshops we have recently finished this replica of the Virgin of Mercy, or Mare de Déu de la Mercè, patron saint of Barcelona, a Gothic image attributed to Pere Moragues (14th century) whose devotion is very widespread. We have made a first modeling in clay, from which we have executed the wood carving, which is stewed with fine gold, polychrome and stewed.
Our copy presents, as we usually do in these cases, significant differences that distinguish it from the original, but we have tried to imprint on it an antique character. This has been achieved through the use of certain techniques and materials, such as the red bowl. Another detail that can be observed in this sense is the careful placement of the fine gold leaves, whose shape can be seen on the back of the image. This same method can be observed in older images.
We have also made in our workshops the crowns and jewels that adorn the Virgin and Child, in shaped, cast and embossed silver, pearls, stones and enamels.
