The main decoration of the wood carved and gilded altarpiece consists of these large figurative paintings in an idealized realism style with a vivid color palette. The program focuses on the representation of the Calvary. The monumental central panel features the traditional Crucifixion Scene with Christ on the Cross and the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. John standing on either side in a natural setting evoking the landscape of the Holy Land. The figures on the painting are painted in a manner of adapted sacra conversazione. The lateral panels show St. Mary Magdalene, with a broken alabaster jar at her feet, and St. Peter holding the Keys of the Kingdom.
