In 2016,
the Archdiocese of Singapore undertook a restoration of its Cathedral. A new altar had to be made since of the old furnishing, only the mensa of was preserved. Designs and materials used for the construction of the new altar, ambo and tabernacle pedestal were inspired by the massive, precedent furnishings previously used in the Cathedral. Carrara marble combined well with the Italian Neoclassical style of the new elements. We also integrated iconographic symbols, carved in marble. The ambo was decorated with a circular relief of the Good Shepherd, in a classic archaic style, wrapped in a golden frame, while the upper molding was covered by a gilded listel, emphasizing the importance of the Word of God. The relief of the altar represents the Lamb of God, with a banner symbolizing His victory over death, the entire image alluding to the Eucharistic sacrifice. The tabernacle and the pedestal are crafted in marble. The pedestal is decorated with a white lily representing the Virgin. On the door of the tabernacle is an image the Risen Christ. He is flanked by two adoring angels, one which appears to be welcoming the Word and the other pointing to the presence of Christ in the tabernacle. Finally, we also made a pedestal for the marble baptismal font, which had been preserved by the Cathedral and restored at Talleres de Arte GRANDA. The communion rail was made to match the rest of the existing elements in the temple, such as sees, lectern and an ambry for the Holy Oils.
