This work,
In the 11th century, this work is linked to Bishop Jerónimo de Perigueux, who accompanied, according to legend, the Cid Campeador in his battles. In the 17th century, a great devotion to it culminated in the creation of an altar by Churriguera for its exhibition. The work was in a precarious state of conservation due to the vicissitudes suffered during its history, and after checking its condition by means of X-rays and analysis, it was agreed with the Cathedral Chapter and the Technical Management to recover the original elements of the piece by removing the added polychromy. The criterion was to conserve the original in its archaeological sense. Likewise, a replica of the original carving was made. Financed by: S. I. C. of Salamanca. Technical Director: Junta de Castilla y León. Executed by: Talleres de Arte GRANDA S.A.
