Oil painting
Chapel of the Hospitaller Sisters. Madrid, Spain.
Pair of paintings flanking a central image dedicated to the crucified Christ. The first painting represents the Virgin with Child. Child Jesus is holding Mary’s hand in an attitude of blessing, pointing with the other hand to her Immaculate Heart, which Mary also enfolds. Gesture of Child Jesus reminding the viewer that we can go to Him through Mary. In the other painting, St. Benedict Menni, the founder of the Congregation of the Hospitaller Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, offers us his open hand as a symbol of devotion, with the other hand welcoming a child in a protective attitude.
